Internationally syndicated relationship and sex advice columnist Dan Savage explains the benefits that knowledge of the bible can have in tackling religious extremists.
1.Do not lie to yourself. 2.Do not lie to other people, unless they are exercising tyranny. 3.When you think it is your duty to inflict pain, scrutinise your reasons closely. 4.When you desire power, examine yourself carefully as to why you desire it. 5.When you have power, use it to build up people, not to constrict them. 6.Do not attempt to live without vanity, since this is impossible, but choose the right audience from which to seek admiration. 7.Do not think of yourself as separate, wholly self-contained unit. 8.Be reliable. 9.Be just. 10.Be good-natured.
Bertrand Russell's Ten Commitments (an ethical replacement for the Ten Commandments)
Ten Commandments for Atheists
1.Have no gods. 2.Don’t worship stuff. 3.Be polite. 4.Take a day off once in a while. 5.Be nice to folks. 6.Don’t kill people. 7.Don’t cheat on your significant other. 8.Don’t steal stuff. 9.Don’t lie about stuff. 10.Don’t be greedy.
God Willing?
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?
