Multi award winning gospel artist Tonéx has come clean about his sexuality. It had been an open secret that Tonéx (or Ton3x) was gay for some time, fueled by lyrics such as "I did it, I made it... [I'm] the genius, the faggot, the weirdo, the hobo, the homo, the magnet."However, unlike fellow gospel artist Donnie McClurkin, Tonéx (pronounced Toe-Nay) seems quite at ease with his sexuality. In a TV interview he refuses to call being gay a 'struggle' and, in what seems like a pop at McClurkin, says that his affinity for men is not the result of past molestation.
Tonéx says that people should be less interested in who he is sleeping with but more concerned that he is practising safe sex and in a monogamous relationship.
This weekend Tonéx released the lyrics to a forthcoming song called 'This is All of Me':
"It took almost 11 years2 finally get back 2 my real self
it took almost 11 years
just 2 4get about what others felt"
"Along the way I lost a lot of friends
because they couldn't handle the real me
oh, what a joy , what a relief it is
to tell the truth and live a life that's free"
"And now I walk around with dignity
Cuz' There's no need for me to push and shove
Take it or leave it here I am"
"So many years I cried when I heard rumors
because deep inside I knew it was the truth (but, hey!)
But I took away all the power from the tabloids
and I found the courage to do what I was called to do"
"This is all of me
Can't take 1/2 of me
This is all of me
I hope that you're proud of me"
In the following interview Tonéx talks about his sexuality from 5 minutes onwards.
